The Gateway of India, a Cultural Heritage of India
The Gateway of India is one of most famous monument of Mumbai and cultral heritage of India, built during the
20th century in Mumbai, India. The Gateway of India was built during British
rule and was inaugurated on December 4, 1924. It was Built in Indo-Saracenic
style.The foundation stone for the Gateway of India was laid on 31 March 1911.
The structure is an arch made of basalt, 26 meters (85 feet) high. It was built as a victorious arch to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Mumbai.It was designed by British architect George Wittet was
sanctioned in 1914 and the construction of the monument was completed in 1924.
The gateway of India is located at the tip of Apollo Bunder and bordered by the
Arabian Sea in the Colaba district. Noways,The monuments, The Gateway of
India is a favorite spot for tourists and photographers and
local vendors. The renowned hotel Taj also situated near Gateway
of India at Colba, Mumbai,India.
